In our busy world, there are two content styles that I find frustrating:
- The first uses long introductions to frame the content.
- The second uses an old presentation template of:
- Intro: Tell them what you’re going to tell them
- Body: Tell them
- Summary: Tell them what you told them
If your content can be re-read, re-wound, or re-played, there is absolutely no reason for repeating or dragging out the message. Who has time for that these days?
If your content is being delivered over the Internet, make sure it can be re-read, re-wound, and/or re-played and avoid repeating yourself in the content. In short:
Get To The Point Already!
There is a lot of thin content out there that gets dragged out because people are either poor communicators, or they are just trying to keep their audience engaged to improve their stats. It takes a tremendous amount of time to wade through all that fluff to find out they never answered the question in their headline, or their answer was not very helpful.
Content creators that don’t get to the point quickly are not respecting our time.
Respect your audience by making your points as clearly and concisely as you can.
